Branwells Mill Restaurant
Station Road, Penzance, Cornwall, TR18 2LQ
£29.00 - to include a main meal, followed by the ghost hunt (£25.00 without the meal)
ABOUT THE VENUE:
The venue is now The Mill Bar and Restaurant and with beamed ceilings, candlelight and a sense of history it is a very atmospheric location, even if it wasn't said to be haunted.
The Messrs R M Branwell and Sons traded here from 1834, on a large scale as millers and general merchants. The business descended from father to son during many generations, the headquarters (now Branwells Restaurant, etc) being the large block of three and four storey buildings near the Great Western Station, known as "The Granaries". The buildings are of granite and familiar to all residents of Penzance and visitors alike.
Link to the Bronte Sisters, literary giants:
Maria Branwell was the daughter of Thomas and Anne Branwell of Penzance. The family was prominent in the town and there are still many reminders today in the names of places, such as Branwell Lane, Branwell House and of course the Mill.
She left Cornwall when she married the Rev Patrick Bronte. Among her children were the famous authors Charlotte, Emily and Anne Bronte. Her son, Branwell, took her family name. In 1820 the family moved to Haworth, on the West Yorkshire Moors, where, tragically, Maria died a year later.
The following year, Maria’s younger sister Elizabeth left her home in Penzance to travel to Yorkshire to care for the six Bronte children. The Branwell family home can still be seen on Chapel Street, Penzance.
There has been quite widespread reports of strange goings on: from a mysterious black cat being seen on numerous occasions, floury footprints often being discovered when nobody has been in the building and lots of other reported phenomena. Without giving details, which could cause auto-suggestion, this is a place you need to see for yourselves. When the restaurant closes and the lights go out it is a VERY spooky location.
On our previous visit there was unexplained phenomena including the discovery of the infamous floury footsteps, strange noises and a dam shadowy figure being seen.

It is very easy to find. As you enter Penzance head as if to the town centre and as you go on the one way system, past the train station you will see the Branwells Restaurant building on your right.
Right opposite the building is a very large car park (Wharfside). There is also a very small area directly outside the restaurant but this fills quickly.
